Over the July 4th weekend, some of us have a 3 day weekend and others may even have a 4 day weekend… so why not get out there and get active and earn some bling?!
SWMI RACERS members can participate in the RACERS Firecracker Challenge and have an opportunity to earn a finisher medal. The first 30 members to register, finish the events, and email results to racers@swmiracers.org will receive a medal. Just run or walk the following 3 events:
For many years the Bednarowski 5K Cherry Run/Walk has been held on Saturday during the Watervliet 4th of July Festival weekend. The event is in memory of Gene Bednarowski, a former Watervliet mentor, teacher, and coach. Proceeds support a scholarship in his name.
But in 2020, the event has gone VIRTUAL. Run or walk the course, create your own course, or run/walk indoors on a treadmill! Things are being done a bit different… the vent is FREE, so not shirts or medals. Nothing to ship, nothing to pick up. Donations for the scholarship fund are welcome!

The Firecracker Five has been the kickoff of the Schoolcraft 4th of July celebration for decades and is an important fundraiser for the Schoolcraft Athletic Boosters. The proceeds from this event are utilized to support our student-athletes and coaches.
Due to the uncertainty of the COVID-19 situation, we have decided to transition the event to a virtual race for the 2020 Firecracker 5 Mile Run and 5k Walk! With a virtual race, you can run anywhere you like, your favorite trail, your neighborhood, even the treadmill if you choose. You will have anytime between 6/20/20 and 7/4/20 to complete either a 5-mile run or 5K walk.
Registration will run through 12:59 PM EST on 7/4/20. Participants signed up by the registration deadline will receive a commemorative race shirt.
Once you’ve finished your race, record your time at www.runsignup.com. Runners/walkers can pick up t-shirts at the entrance to Roy H. Davis Field at Schoolcraft Community Schools on 7/25/20 from 9-12 EST! And if you live out of the area, we will be happy to send you your shirt to keep you home and safe.
The Al-Van’s Virtual Firecracker Furry 5K and 1 Mile Paws on Parade is a fundraiser for the Al-Van Humane Society, a no-kill animal shelter, located in South Haven Michigan. Participants can run/walk in their own neighborhood, on a treadmill, or on the Firecracker Furry 5K race course in South Haven. You have between Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, July 12 to complete your 5K. Once you have completed the 5K, submit your time to the Runsignup website.
You can pick up your 2020 Firecracker Furry 5K t-shirts and finisher’s medals (while supplies last) at the Al-Van Humane Society shelter, 07591 Blue Star Highway, South Haven, once you have completed your 5K run or walk. Or select the option to have your packet mailed for a small fee.
